La Pietra Gives Back to Local Students During Annual Special Guest Day

La Pietra alumna Rachel Wagenman '09 and Special Guest Day Committee member, Ava Alosa, share details on the school tradition.
La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls is set to host its annual Special Guest Day on Friday, February 7. This beloved school tradition brings students from neighboring public schools in pre-kindergarten through third grade with special needs to the Diamond Head campus for a day of joy and connection.
Organized, planned, and executed by La Pietra students, this event is a celebration of the school’s core value of kahiau—selfless giving. Over 60 students from Makaha Elementary School, Waikīkī Elementary School, Waiʻalae Public Charter School, and Kūhiō Elementary School are expected to join in the fun.
“As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we are thrilled to continue this tradition of giving back to the community,” said Kristie Han, Dean of Students at La Pietra and Class of 2000 alumna. “Our students are eager to lead lives of purpose through kahiau, and we look forward to welcoming our guests for a day filled with laughter, learning, and play.”
This year’s theme is “Circus,” and guests will be paired with La Pietra students to enjoy a variety of activities, including pony rides, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and carnival games. Additionally, members of the Honolulu Fire and Police Departments, along with the Department of Transportation, will be on hand to give students an up-close look at emergency vehicles, including a fire engine, police car, and ATVs. Young guests will also have the chance to create their own Keiki ID.
