Miss Hawaii Courtney Choy speaks to La Pietra class on women empowerment

August 25th, 2021

La Pietra was excited to welcome Miss Hawaii 2021 Courtney Choy during her very first school visit! While running for the title, her social impact statement was “women’s empowerment through partnership,” a very relevant topic for the students in Mr. Wilson's Design Thinking class. Not only did Choy win the crown back in May, but she also graduated from law school that same weekend. With the platform and her degree, she hopes to empower others to dream big.

"Still smiling from my FIRST school visit with the amazing young women at La Pietra – Hawai'i School for Girls in Honolulu!" Choy wrote on Instagram. "A huge mahalo to Mr. Wilson for having me speak to his students on the importance of girls’ and women’s empowerment, following your dreams, and knowing that there is no limit to what we, as individuals and as a community, can accomplish."

Choy shared some details about her life leading up to Miss Hawaii, explaining that it's the passion you put into everything you do that counts most. You may not be the best at something, but if you do it with passion, it will show. While on the topic of women empowerment, Choy also shared some of her heroes, including iconic women like Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Carissa Moore, who just brought the first Olympic surfing gold medal home to Hawaii. She then helped the class brainstorm ideas for their Tiny House projects.

"My heart is so full knowing that these young women will go out into the world with curiosity, passion, and determination to have their voices heard and be the change they wish to see!" she wrote.

Mahalo to Miss Hawaii Courtney Choy for taking the time to visit and for inspiring our students!
