Celebrate National Read A Book Day on Sept. 6
September 3rd, 2021
Calling all book worms! September 6 is celebrated annually as National Read A Book Day. So if you're a book lover, here's your excuse to sit back and indulge in what you love this weekend! If you need book ideas, a few of our English teachers thought they would take the opportunity to share some titles they're currently reading.
Mrs. Kaitlin Futoma
Meet Mrs. Kaitlin Futoma! This year, she is teaching English 6, English 7, and American Literature at La Pietra.
Currently, she is reading Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean, the “refreshing, spot-on” (Booklist, starred review) story of an ordinary Japanese-American girl who discovers that her father is the Crown Prince of Japan.
Mr. Ben Roosevelt
Meet Mr. Ben Roosevelt! He teaches Literature 9, American Literature, AP Literature, College Composition, and Romanticism in Literature.
This term, students in his American Literature class are in the middle of reading Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok. The book is about Kimberly Chang, an immigrant girl who moved from Hong Kong to Brooklyn with her mother, and her struggle to choose between two worlds and two futures.
