Environmental Activism Club joins World Climate Strike
September 24th, 2021
Members of the Environmental Activism Club spread awareness about climate change
On September 24, 2021, thousands of youth around the world took part in a global climate strike to demand action, and La Pietra's Environmental Activism Club joined in, bringing the issues to light on campus. Demonstrations were planned in more than 1,500 locations by Fridays for Future, a youth movement.
"78% of marine animals are at risk of choking on plastic," one student's sign read. "The wooden paper thrown away every year could heat five million homes for 20 years,” read another.
The point of this is to raise awareness and put pressure on our legislators to enact change.

Club members, armed with facts and signs, handed out flyers to students while walking around campus. The goal was to teach others about the sustainable action they could take in their own lives. Members also passed around a petition, asking their fellow students to take a pledge to help the cause.
Another sign reads: "By 2024, the whole Amazon Rainforest will be gone."
The Environmental Activism Club was started by three students: Sabrina C., Sadie G., and Melody H. The leaders walked the campus sharing simple things they could do as students, like taking cold showers and lessening the use of plastics, to start making a difference.
"Starting a conversation with your parents about what you can do is really helpful," Sadie G. shared with a group of 6th graders during lunch. By working together to make small improvements, we can make big goals a reality!
