La Pietra students celebrate Halloween with Great Lawn festivities

October 29th, 2021

happy halloween!

Girls in Grades 6-8 gathered during the program to compete for "Best Middle School Costume"

The campus was abuzz with excitement as students started showing up in their costumes. A middle schooler in a dinosaur suit hurried from class to class, and many saw the Joker and Harley Quinn making their rounds. It was a chance to eat some candy, let loose, and have a little fun as students took part in a costume contest and other Halloween activities on the Great Lawn!

While there were many creative and handmade costumes this year, a few stood out from the rest! Sophomore Melody H. took home the prize for Best High School Costume with her costume as "The Test You Forgot to Study For." Now that's scary!

6th-grader Addy J. won the title of Best Middle School Costume for her Cruella ensemble. She and fellow 6th-grader Mia. I had dressed up together as Cruella and her Dalmatian.

From the moment she stepped on campus, word of junior Grace K.'s costume spread quickly. She handmade herself a classic Halloween costume: The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters! For her efforts, she took home Best Handmade Costume.

Up next, Trendiest Costume went to 6th-grader Elynna A. She was dressed as Player 67 from the hit Netflix TV Series Squid Game.

Sophomores Sadie G. & Elyssa A. dress up as Hungry Hungry Hippos and win Best Group Costume

The competition for Best Group Costume was tight this year, but sophomores Elyssa A. and Sadie G. took home the coveted prize for their costumes as the Hungry Hungry Hippos! A childhood favorite for sure. Do you remember playing that game?

And of course, it wouldn't be a Halloween costume contest without naming the student with the Scariest Costume! Dressed as a plague doctor, 7th-grader Leilani S. was awarded the title. Now that is original!

We can't forget La Pietra's faculty and staff, who really brought the creativity this year with their costumes! From Bob the Builder to a bottle of Sriracha, and even a full-body Call of Duty suit, there was no lack of holiday spirit. Ultimately, the judges were torn as to who should win the title of Best Teacher Costume, and they announced a tie: Ms. Ota and Mr. Chung!

While a group of teachers had dressed as La Pietra students in uniform, Mr. Chung did not shy away from donning a skirt, earning him the title. But who could resist Ms. Ota's unicorn costume? Certainly not the judges, and thus our tie!

Congratulations to the all the winners in the La Pietra costume contest! And great work to all those who entered and worked so hard on their costumes.

HALLOWEEN ACTIVITY WINNERS

Students paint pumpkins as part of La Pietra's Halloween festivities

While the judges deliberated on the winners of the costume contest categories, students separated into smaller groups to take part in some more Halloween activities! Those who signed up to represent their grade in the pumpkin painting activity got together to design the spookiest pumpkins. While everyone worked hard to put their most creative pieces forward, the Seniors took home the win!

Students also had the option to sign up for the La Pietra Transylvanian Trivia Competition. Teams of two from each grade put their heads together as Ms. Wiseman asked questions surrounding popular Halloween trivia. Ultimately, the Freshmen Class took home the win in this activity!

Congratulations to all our winners and participants!

Have a happy & safe halloween!
