La Pietra - Hawai'i School for Girls named one of Hawaii's Top Workplaces

La Pietra - Hawai'i School for Girls is proud to be named a 2022 Top Workplace by The Hawaii Top Workplaces. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.

"I am proud to work at one of Hawaii's top workplaces, and I'm equally proud to say that the people who work here are the reason we were able to achieve this recognition," said Head of School Josh Watson, Ed.D. "This is a special community of kind, committed, helpful, and hard-working people. The aloha and kahiau at our workplace are a daily inspiration."

Kahiau is a theme many of La Pietra's faculty and staff identify with. It's a value that Human Resource Manager Dawn Ijiri believes sets the school apart.

"We have people who work here who just really give from their heart," she said. "That is not something that you can learn and it's just a very innate thing that we have in our people who work here."

"During this very challenging time, Top Workplaces has proven to be a beacon of light for organizations, as well as a sign of resiliency and strong business performance," said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. "When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward. Top Workplaces draw on real-time insights into what works best for their organization, so they can make informed decisions that have a positive impact on their people and their business."

La Pietra is located on the slopes of Diamond Head and is a school for girls in Grades 6-12

For over 50 years, La Pietra has been educating young women to lead lives of purpose by offering an innovative, college preparatory program designed to challenge and inspire young women to discover their passions, realize their potential, and become the architects of their own success stories.

"Our mission of raising women of purpose, on purpose, is really seen everyday in all the work that we do, and we see it in our growing students as well," said Ijiri. "Finding purpose in our work, it's not always tangible... but when you look around and you see our teachers working with students, there's something very meaningful about that."

Established in 1964, La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls was the vision of a small group of forward thinking-women. They believed that girls in Hawaii would thrive in a school built just for them. Today, La Pietra continues to be a place where young women flourish in a supportive community valuing each girl’s journey toward confidence, passion, and purpose.

"La Pietra is one of my favorite places to work. That's why I'm here, I love this place," said longtime Art Instructor Cynthia Tesoro. "The way these teachers are with each other — they're like my unseen backbone. I have never had that in all the jobs I've had."

La Pietra's small class sizes and low 7:1 student-teacher ratio are vital to providing students with an intimate classroom setting where they feel safe to engage and participate, and our supportive and connected community is the best place for today’s young woman to fully become herself and to realize her purpose.
