La Pietra Senior Wins Silver Key in Scholastic Art Awards

Senior Eva H. wins a Silver Key Award for her photo, "A Sunday Afternoon Daydream"

Congratulations to senior Eva H. on winning a Silver Key in this year's Scholastic Art Awards for her photograph entitled, "A Sunday Afternoon Daydream." Two photos by senior Kathryn S. also received Honorable Mention awards.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Eva's photograph will be on display at the 59th Annual Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition on the second floor of the Hawaii State Art Museum (HiSAM) starting February 18. This year, there were 2,390 submissions – a new record for HiSAM!
 


Senior Kathryn S. wins Honorable Mention for her photo, "Goons"

Senior Kathryn S. won Honorable Mentions for her two photos entitled, "Goons" and "The Road." They will be shown in April at Windward Community College's Iolani Gallery.

Eva and Kathryn's entries were selected by some of the foremost leaders in visual arts. Judges look for works that demonstrate the Scholastic Art Awards' core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Entries are selected without knowledge of a student’s personal information, including gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown.

Congratulations to both Eva and Kathryn on this wonderful accomplishment! Don't forget, you can view Eva's piece at the 59th Annual Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition at HiSAM starting February 18, and Kathryn's photographs can be found at Windward Community College's Iolani Gallery in April.
