Celebrating faculty and staff for Employee Appreciation Day

March 4th, 2022

Alum Tasi Reid '14, founder of Black Sheep Cream Co., helps celebrate Employee Appreciation Day with ice cream

La Pietra wouldn't be such a wonderful place to work and go to school without its passionate team of faculty and staff members. Friday, March 4 marked Employee Appreciation Day, and to say thank you to the people who make it all possible, pizza and ice cream were on the lunch menu. Talk about a great way to end the week!

"When a person cares deeply and feels passionately about their purpose, it resonates in their work. That is what makes La Pietra so special," said Human Resource Manager Dawn Ijiri.

"The people who work here are so dedicated and genuinely lift each other and our students to succeed. I never take for granted the number one reason why I love working here, and I’m grateful every day to be surrounded by people who make myself and our community better," Ijiri said.

Tasi Reid '14, La Pietra alum and owner of Black Sheep Cream Company, was on campus serving up some of her signature ice cream flavors: Buttah Cake, blueberry cheesecake, and coffee with brownie bits. It was hard to choose just one, so many of La Pietra's employees opted for a sampling of all three!

Reid founded the ice cream business after completing her Independent Project as a junior. In August 2021, Reid opened the businesses' fifth location in Ko Olina. You can also find Black Sheep Cream Co. at locations in Waipio, Wahiawa, Kaka’ako, and the NEX.

See what makes La Pietra one of Hawaii's Top Workplaces!

Employee Appreciation Day took on extra special meaning this year, as La Pietra was just recently named a Top Workplace by The Hawaii Top Workplaces. The list was announced in January in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and only 10 companies made the cut!

"I am proud to work at one of Hawaii's top workplaces, and I'm equally proud to say that the people who work here are the reason we were able to achieve this recognition," said Head of School Josh Watson, Ed.D. "This is a special community of kind, committed, helpful, and hard-working people. The aloha and kahiau at our workplace are a daily inspiration."

Established in 1964, La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls was the vision of a small group of forward thinking-women. They believed that girls in Hawaii would thrive in a school built just for them. Today, La Pietra continues to be a place where young women flourish in a supportive community valuing each girl’s journey toward confidence, passion, and purpose.

Sending a BIG mahalo to all of the faculty and staff members in our La Pietra ‘ohana! Thank you for everything you do to make our community such a special place.
