Head of School Josh Watson presents 7th-grader Emma M.
with the 2022 Honolulu District Spelling Bee Runner-Up trophy
Back at the end of 2021, 7th-grader Emma M. was named the winner of La Pietra's National Honor Society (NHS) Spelling Bee. Spelling the word "mournful" earned her a spot to compete in the 2022 Honolulu District Spelling Bee. We are proud to announce that after competing, she was named the 2022 Honolulu District Spelling Bee Runner-Up! Congratulations, Emma!
Head of School Josh Watson presented Emma with her trophy and NHS advisors Mrs. Shari Lynn and Ms. Miya Huang gathered to congratulate her on the accomplishment. Emma also received a Barnes and Noble gift card as part of her prize.
As the NHS Spelling Bee Runner-Up, 6th-grader Kai W. also represented La Pietra at the 2022 Honolulu District Spelling Bee and received a certificate of participation. Congratulations to all of our spellers on a job well done!
La Pietra's NHS holds a number of student events and community service projects throughout the year. Based on the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, the chapter aims to give students an opportunity to hone their leadership skills and serve as role models in their learning community.
Most notably this school year, NHS put on a school wide food drive to benefit the Hawaii Foodbank and also partnered with Ma'i Movement to package 100 period kits. Congratulations to our student leaders for putting on events like our own NHS Spelling Bee and for giving back to the community!
