La Pietra is proud to be included in "The Women's Issue" of Honolulu Magazine. The April edition features a look at some of the influential and inspiring women who helped to shape the landscape of our islands.
Eight women from our La Pietra community will be highlighted, including current seniors Victoria H. and La Dayne P., alumnae Lynne Toyofuku '75, Debbie Weil-Manuma '75, Kim Hutchison '05, and Catherine Ako '06, and faculty and staff members Mrs. Gay Chinen and Dr. Kate Kane.
A small group were the first to receive the magazine on Wednesday, March 30 during a panel entitled, "The Future is in Her Hands: Inspired by the Past. Hopeful for the Future," hosted by Neiman Marcus. The event served to celebrate not only the debut of the one-of-a-kind special issue, but also Women's History Month.
Local artist Margaret Rice, the illustrator of the issue's special cover art, was among the women in the panel discussion.
"The cover art aims to illustrate all women, from color, to age, to walk of life, to career, and so very much more. To display women as we are. A wide range of beauty, talent, personality, strength & courage," Rice said in an Instagram post. "Each of us bringing a uniqueness to the table that makes up our gender as a whole. A gender who has made huge strides and continues to push forward for the betterment of women."
Moderated by editor at large of Honolulu Magazine Robbie Dingeman, the inspiring panel also included local leaders like aio President & COO Susan Eichor and Hawaiian Electric Company President & CEO Shelee Kimura. They shared insight on topics like women and fashion, what it means to uplift other women in the community, and finally the legacies they hope to leave.
La Pietra is proud to feature members of its community on the same pages as some of our island's most inspiring leaders. In an effort to educate young women to lead lives of purpose, our school offers girls in grades 6-12 a nurturing environment where they're encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and voice their opinions.

Earlier in March, La Pietra joined the worldwide movement on International Women's Day to imagine an inclusive world free of bias and discrimination, a world in which difference is valued and celebrated. The school also celebrated members of its own diverse and inspiring community of young women in a series of student stories, each of whom are on their own journey to discover their unique sense of purpose.
"Every day, our students, teachers and staff work hard to engage, empower, and advance the cause of gender equality," said Head of School Josh Watson, Ed.D.
La Pietra believes in a diverse, equitable, and accessible world every day, not just during Women's History Month or International Women’s Day. To learn more about some of the members of our community and how they continue to live our school values in their daily lives, be sure to pick up "The Women's Issue" of Honolulu Magazine this April!
