La Pietra Hosts First In-Person Special Guest Day Since Pandemic

For the first time in three years, Special Guest Day took place in-person and on campus at La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls on Friday, February 10, 2023. The decades-old school tradition invites students from public schools in pre-kindergarten through third grade with special needs to the Diamond Head campus for a day of fun.
This year the theme was jungle, and neighboring schools from around Oahu were in attendance. These special guests were paired with La Pietra students to experience pony rides, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and carnival-style games and activities. Members of the Honolulu Fire and Police Departments were also on campus, allowing students to get an up-close look at a fire truck, police car, and even an all-terrain vehicle.
During the last few years, Special Guest Day had to be re-imagined due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and alumna and Dean of Students Kristie Han '00 was thrilled to bring this beloved community event back to life and invite our special guests back to campus.
“Special Guest Day is a La Pietra tradition, and a day of service,” Han said. “La Pietra students live the spirit of selfless giving, or kahiau, by assisting our guests with various activities.”
