La Pietra's National Honor Society (NHS) was proud to welcome its newest members on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. The ceremony formally recognized nine outstanding students who had been selected by the Faculty Council for successfully meeting membership requirements of the nation's oldest, largest, and most prestigious student recognition program.

This year's new members included: sophomores Ashlynn B., Abby M.. Olivia Butterfly R., and Heather Smith, juniors Megu K. and Remy K., and seniors Morgan S., Mayara S., and Evalynn T. NHS President Jade H. started off the ceremony by recognizing these outstanding students.

"Today's ceremony indicates the continuing emphasis on excellence that we represent for our school and community," Jade said. "In addition to the strong academic records which established their eligibility for membership, our chapter members are leaders in other student organizations and have served our school and community through many activities. We are proud of this record of accomplishment and welcome our new members who will bring new energy in support of our continuing work as NHS members."

Led by advisors Ms. Miya Huang and Ms. Sam Wiseman, membership in La Pietra's NHS Chapter is earned by demonstrating four qualities, or pillars, that serve as standards for the society. These include scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

"As Head of School, it's my honor to recognize the students who have taken this first step towards greatness," said Head of School Josh Watson, Ed.D. "Students, we are proud of your efforts and you are well on your way to being future leaders of our community and our nation."

During its founding in 1921, NHS wisely selected its four pillars to guide the selection process. These are designed to find students who do more than talking about scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

"It is our sincere belief that these inductees truly represent this lofty standard," Watson added. "It is a great accomplishment for a student to be recognized in one of the four areas. But when they are combined, these pillars make the greatest impact on our world."

New members recite the National Honor Society pledge.

After the ceremonial lighting of candles, the new inductees recited the NHS pledge and then were each awarded with a certificate from Dr. Watson and Dean of Academics & Faculty Jen Grems. This was followed up with the presentation of a pin and rose for each new member. Congratulations to the nine new members of La Pietra's NHS Chapter on this wonderful accomplishment!
