Before graduating in May 2021, Makenna Kinsler shared a special hula during her last May Day program at La Pietra. While attending the school, she not only served as May Day director, but was also the leader of the school’s Hawaiian Club, Na ‘Imi ‘Ike O Hawai‘i. Little did she know that just one year later, she would be performing at the Merrie Monarch Festival on hula’s biggest stage.
“Merrie Monarch has always been my dream ever since I was very little,” Kinsler says. “It was definitely very emotional because we wanted to do our best and make sure it was absolutely perfect when we got on that stage.”
