About the Role: As the Dean of Academics & Faculty, you will report directly to the Head of School and play an important role on our Executive Administrative Team. You will lead the development and implementation of our academic strategy, guide our talented faculty, and drive initiatives that advance our school's mission. Your work will directly impact the lives of our students, shaping their academic journey and preparing them for future success.

What you'll do 

Academic Leadership

  • Oversee the design, evaluation, and refinement of the academic program for grades 6-12.

  • Lead academic counseling for students and ensure accuracy in grade reporting and transcripts.

  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students to address students' learning and behavioral needs.

  • Partner with the Registrar to manage academic scheduling for teachers and students.

  • Set and monitor benchmarks for student achievement and teacher growth.

  • Participate in the school’s accreditation process and oversee program evaluations.

  • Serve as the primary academic liaison for external organizations and programs.

Faculty Development & Oversight

  • Collaborate with the Director of Curricular Innovation to design professional development and mission-aligned programs.

  • Supervise and support faculty in instructional delivery and curriculum implementation.

  • Lead teacher hiring, retention, orientation, and ongoing development.

  • Conduct regular classroom observations and evaluations to maintain high teaching standards.

School-Wide Contributions

  • Serve on the Executive Administrative Team, contributing to strategic decision-making and implementation.

  • Oversee portions of the academic budget and collaborate on school-wide initiatives.

  • Support and enforce school policies and maintain a visible presence at school events.

  • Assist with student behavior management and uphold community standards.

Other Duties

  • Adapt to changing priorities and needs as directed by the Head of School.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.

  • Minimum of three years of teaching and/or administrative experience, preferably in an upper-school setting.

  • Knowledge of grades 6-12 curriculum and professional development strategies.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • A collaborative, empathetic, and solutions-focused mindset.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, student-centered academic environment.

  • Familiarity with Hawai‘i’s culture and diversity, and an appreciation for single-gender education.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and student information systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Education or a related field.

  • Five years of experience in a similar position.

  • Experience in an all-girls independent school setting.

  • Experience in academic scheduling and planning.

Physical, Mental, Tactile and other Requirements

  • Work is normally performed indoors in an office environment, although it may occasionally be outdoors.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking. 
  • Ability to safely use equipment necessary in this role, such as copier, scanner, projector, computer.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret documents. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively when speaking to students and adult audiences, via email and other tech-based forms of communication.
  • Ability to problem solve, make decisions, supervise and manage students, interpret data, communicate, plan.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply conventional English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Salary range: $85,000 - $105,000 for full-time, based on experience

Founded in 1964, La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls is a secular independent day school in Honolulu, Hawai‘i enrolling approximately 100 students in grades 6-12. The campus is located at the foot of Diamond Head state monument, on the grounds of an estate modeled after an Italian villa, and approximately one-quarter mile from Waikīkī beach.
